Character Depth Analysis
let’s make your characters unforgettable
Let’s chat about characters! Those little bundles of energy who become more real to you than your own friends. We love them, we sometimes question their choices, and we want our readers to truly connect with them.
Most writers who come to me worried about “flat characters” are often looking at the issue through the wrong lens.
Flatness is rarely about backstory. You know how I feel about info-dumping. And your characters likely don’t need more trauma. The problem is almost always lack of internal pressure.
A character becomes truly unforgettable when they are living inside tension, between what they want and what they believe, between what they say and what they do, between who they are and who they’re afraid to become.
I’ve designed this analysis to be a practical diagnostic tool. You can use it on a draft today. Our goal here is to create internal compression.
The full analysis, including detailed examples and worksheets, is available to paid subscribers. If you’d prefer to buy a copy, it’s available on Gumroad for $5, much less than a single editing hour, and something you can learn from and use across multiple drafts.
